Paul sold for $671,000 Saturday night at the 39th annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz. One of 29 made, the 1929 Hamilton H-47 Metalplane was restored by a team of local mechanics and welders at Jack Lysdale’s hangar at Fleming Field during the 1970s. The sale price includes a standard 10 percent commission Barrett-Jackson charged the buyer, who phoned in the bid. Televised live on the Speed Channel, the auction also featured other rare finds such as a 1963 Shelby Cobra that sold for $401,500 and John Dillinger’s 1930 Ford Model A getaway car that went for $165,000.
