Vintage race car returns (Macomb Daily)- Car Auction News

Posavetz John Snowberger, 57, of Sterling Heights, stands with the restored racing car his race-car driver father, Russell Snowberger, built and drove in the 1932 Indy 500, shortly before it was loaded into a trailer and towed to Indianapolis for today's vintage car laps on the track. John Snowberger will achieve a years-long dream Friday when he drives the same race car his famous race-car driver father drove in the 1932 Indianapolis 500. Snowberger, 57, of Sterling Heights, two weeks ago put the finishing touches on restoring the one-of-a-kind vehicle that placed fifth in the 1932 Indy 500 driven by the late Russell Snowberger. John Snowberger only completed the restoration of the Comet two weeks ago after trading a car his father built for another driver, a 1955 Federal Engineering Special, to a collector in Indiana three years ago. The show carries extra significance, Snowberger said, because his father, while driving in the second pole position (fourth) in the 1932 race, traveled behind Edsel Ford in the pace car, a Lincoln Roadster. read more
