Parish told authorities she fatally stabbed a man because he had “disrespected” her uncle, a coroner’s jury was told Wednesday. Williams was confronting Richard Smith, the owner of the Alton home where Williams was stabbed to death. Parish initially told police she knew nothing about the crime but later admitted her involvement, according to testimony from Detective Mike O’Neill of the Alton Police Department during the Madison County coroner’s inquest into Williams’ death. In another inquest held Wednesday, the jury heard testimony that Donald Lee Legens of Granite City, who died at the hands of an allegedly drunk driver in a hit-and-run crash last Nov. A motorist who witnessed the crash and saw the tow truck drive away from the scene followed it to Ikerman’s home in rural Edwardsville and called police, who arrested Ikerman there. The elder Legens’ widow, Jessica Legens, as administrator of the estates of her husband and son, is suing Ikerman, as well as a car auction company that employed Ikerman and owned the tow truck. read more
