(Car Auction News) ‘Super Bowl’ of car auctions expands from Scottsdale to Vegas (Las Vegas Sun)
Wednesday, October 31st, 2007Craig Jackson, chief executive of the Barrett-Jackson car auction, announced a new vintage car auction at the House of Blues nightclub in the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino. Much like the Scottsdale auction, held at WestWorld of Scottsdale and broadcast on cable television, the new venue is expected to include live music, a fashion show and merchandise and memorabilia for sale, in addition to the flashy autos on the auction block. For months, Jackson has been threatening to scale back the Scottsdale auction in favor of Las Vegas. In May, he gave Scottsdale an ultimatum - either make concessions in negotiating a 20-year deal to keep the auction at WestWorld, or he would shift his focus to Vegas. On the flip side, Jackson said his relationship with Las Vegas is “phenomenal” compared to his rocky relationship with Scottsdale. And one day, he said it’s possible the Las Vegas event will overshadow the Scottsdale auction. read more
