The first time Stacy Camp drove her ice cream truck onto the wide streets of Spring’s Northhill subdivision and cranked up the music, nothing happened. And modern conveniences, from video games to air conditioning, increasingly keep kids inside, said Steve Feldman, a retired driver who consults nationally for the ice cream truck industry (and is also Camp’s uncle-in-law). Not an easy task A mother of two, Camp got into the business nearly two years ago when she and her husband, Robert, invested in a 2001 truck and stocked it with a shaved ice machine and boxes of what they call high-end ice cream. She hits her businesses each morning, stopping at day cares for pre-arranged sales and trolling through a particularly lucrative car auction once a week, where “the guys” get grumpy if she’s not stocked with the Big Dippers and Double Strawberry Ice Cream Sandwiches. read more
