Matt Ehlers , Staff Writer What worked three decades ago for a mustachioed beau-hunk doesn’t necessarily do it for a teenager in 2007, and this is why Frank Englert decided to sell his Trans Am. Although televised car auctions have been tucked away for years at places like the SPEED Channel, ESPN networks this year entered the market in earnest, increasing the auctions’ visibility and popularity. Included in a block of automotive-themed programming called ESPN2 Garage, the auctions draw anywhere from 300,000 to 600,000 viewing households, says Frantz Cayo, director of motorsports programming for ESPN. The Raleigh auctions, which are not televised, are run by Auctions America, a company owned by Mike Leith of the Leith automotive empire. read more

The 28th annual Three Year Old Futurity and Spring Show is June 6-9 at the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breeding Association headquarters, Missouri 5, 1 mile north of Ava. Admission is $5 June 6-7; $6 June 8-9; free for ages 6 and younger. The 25th annual Spring Bluegrass Festival is June 7 through 9 at the Heart of the Ozarks Bluegrass Association’s park near West Plains.
