Always the newsman, Jim Gannon knew when he spied a Hutchinson name on the owner’s manual of the 1950 Chevrolet coupe he bought at auction that it was a story. Gannon, retired editor of the Des Moines Register and a classic car buff, bought the vehicle at a Kissimmee, Fla. After his mother died, her car went to a grandson, Mike O’Riley, who lives near Bella Vista, Ark. In a telephone interview O’Riley, 68, said he still had the original sale bill for the blue Styleline cq Deluxe Chevy purchased by his great-grandmother Mrs. The two didn’t drive the car often, they shopped locally, drove downtown to the Davis-Child Chevrolet dealership on West Second Avenue to have it serviced and attended church occasionally in Plevna, in western Reno County.
