(Car Auction News) Antiques calendar (Greenwich Time)

Provenance includes a letter from owner Patricia Slocum, who was given the dress as a gift from Henry Rosenfeld, the dress shop owner who gave Monroe the dress. Slocum is the widow of former Major League Baseball Commissioner Frank Slocum, whose collection of baseball memorabilia will be auctioned. The Slocum baseball collection includes signed baseballs and bats, team photographs, team programs, World Series tickets and passes dating back to the 1940s. The pre-auction viewing generated considerable interest with the display of the late actor Steve McQueen’s 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso which will be sold in August at Christie’s next car auction. Among them, a 1931 Packard 833 dual cowl phaeton (reached $120,000 of the presale estimate of $145,000 to $165,000), and a 1911 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost touring car (reached $580,000 of the presale estimate of $600,000 to $800,000). What did sell was a restored 1955 Chevrolet First Series 3100 pickup truck for $77,000; a 1937 Ford station wagon for $159,500; a 1957 fuel-injected Corvette for $99,000; and the queen of the show – a 1938 Bugatti Type 57 C Atalante coupe. read more
