AUBURN – As rain fell Monday, the sprawling white tent that housed The Auburn Auction was halfway dismantled. The second annual car auction by Worldwide Auctioneers was held over five hours Saturday evening, although post-auction negotiations were still under way Monday, according to Jo Snyder, spokeswoman for Worldwide Auctioneers. Snyder said a record-setting bid of $440,000 won a 1942 Chrysler Windsor Town & Country barrel back nine-passenger station wagon. There were 83 cars consigned to this year’s auction and most went to the block with reserve prices that held through bidding, Snyder said. As the hours ticked away to Saturday’s auction, people wandered among the cars parked inside and outside of the tent, which auctioneers plan to replace with a permanent structure. The Becherers, who own Auburn and Cord cars, praised the quality and selection of the automobiles consigned to The Auburn Auction. read more
