And modern conveniences, from video games to air conditioning, increasingly keep kids inside, said Steve Feldman, a retired driver who consults nationally for the ice cream truck industry (and is also Camp’s uncle-in-law). Not an easy task A mother of two, Camp got into the business nearly two years ago when she and her husband, Robert, invested in a 2001 truck and stocked it with a shaved ice machine and boxes of what they call high-end ice cream. She hits her businesses each morning, stopping at day cares for pre-arranged sales and trolling through a particularly lucrative car auction once a week, where “the guys” get grumpy if she’s not stocked with the Big Dippers and Double Strawberry Ice Cream Sandwiches. read more
